Welcome to the very first Fan of the Month for January, 2012. Melbourne Victory has some of the most passionate football fans in the A-League and the club would certainly not be what it is today without them. Thats why FotM is all about you guys! First up is Chris….
Name: Chris Van Unen (@ritchie78)
Where are you from?
Traralgon
How long have you been a Melbourne Victory fan?
Since day one.
Why do you support Victory?
I grew up supporting Morwell Falcons in the NSL as they played only ten minutes from where I lived. I love my football so when Falcons folded and Victory were formed, they were the next obvious choice.
What is your first Melbourne Victory memory?
Watching the clubs first game away to Sydney FC on TV with a group of mates.
Who is your all time favourite player?
Archie Thompson. He plays with such passion, always puts in 100% and wears the shirt with pride.
Which is your all time favourite goal?
James Robinson’s winner in the Major Semi Final vs Adelaide in 2007. I was in the North End that night. His goal bound header seemed to go in slow motion, then when it went in it was chaos.
Whats the best match you’ve attended?
The 2007 6-0 Grand Final win. Although not a close game, being 3-0 up at half time, it was awesome knowing we were playing so well and having a man advantage, we were never going to lose.
Which opposition club do you hate the most?
It used to be Adelaide and Sydney, but now Heart have well and truely taken over that honour.
Which opposition player do you hate the most?
Jacob Burns, closely followed by Terry McFlynn.
If you could have dinner with one Melbourne Victory player who would it be and why?
Harry Kewell. He’s done so much for football in Australia it would be great to sit down with him and talk about his career.
Whats one thing you think the club can improve on?
The club seem to be on the right path in most areas. Maybe an official post game function for away trips where the players can mingle with the travelling fans after the game.
