Today Melbourne Victory called a press conference to announce that they have terminated head coach Mehmet Durakovic’s contract immediately after just six months. Having produced five losses, six draws and only three wins, the Board decided to call time on his tenure.

Chairman Anthony Di Pietro said in an official statement:

We have given Mehmet every opportunity to succeed this season, but we found we were inconsistent and the team lacked direction.

Mehmet is a wonderful person of high integrity, who has my full respect on a personal and professional level. This is always difficult but it’s a professional decision.

The Club have stated they will announce the appointment of a new coach in the coming days, possibly as early as 24-48 hours. In the meantime, former captain and current assistant coach Kevin Muscat will take charge of the team in a caretaker role for their clash with Newcastle Jets tomorrow.
