After ten games in this A-League campaign we sit 8th on the table with six draws, two losses and just two wins. When you also consider that the team are playing like shit 95% of the time I think its fair to say that Melbourne Victory are stuck in a rut.

rut

noun

• a habit or pattern of behaviour that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change : the administration was stuck in a rut and was losing its direction.

With the league being as close as it is, it won’t actually take much in terms of picking up points for us to shoot up the table again – but it will take some huge performances for that to happen.

Despite the doom and gloom of the situation we are seeing some improvements. Harry Kewell is looking better every week and isn’t too far away from hitting some real form, while Thompson and Hernandez continue to impress with nine goals between them. The real issue though is Victory’s lack of cohesion as a team. We’ve seen glimpses of them playing as a unit but they seem incapable of reproducing it every week.

In the post-match press conference Mehmet Durakovic remained positive about the performance, opting to look on the bright side:

We dominated possession, created a lot of chances. They had a shot, scored. That’s football sometimes.

But they’re playing the way I want them to play. The players deserved a lot more than what they got tonight.

Fair enough, we did dominate possession but its what we did with the ball when we had it thats more worrying. Too many times we turned it over by playing hopeful passes, long balls and just making the wrong decisions. Plus, with the amount of chances we had last night we really should have won the game.

If there’s one positive thing I’ll take from this match its that it was the last game at Etihad Stadium for the season. That is until Finals, if we make it that far. But still, a change of scenery and a better atmosphere might just do the players some good. It worked against Gold Coast so lets hope it can give the players a bit of a lift. We need any sort of advantage we can get at the moment so whatever helps I guess.

If you need some cheering up this morning look no further than the comedic stylings of Adelaide United. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in a football match with three players all dropping to the floor, one by one. Hilarious! Have a good week.
