After ten games in this A-League campaign we sit 8th on the table with six draws, two losses and just two wins. When you also consider that the team are playing like shit 95% of the time I think its fair to say that Melbourne Victory are stuck in a rut.
rut
noun
• a habit or pattern of behaviour that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change : the administration was stuck in a rut and was losing its direction.
With the league being as close as it is, it won’t actually take much in terms of picking up points for us to shoot up the table again – but it will take some huge performances for that to happen.
Despite the doom and gloom of the situation we are seeing some improvements. Harry Kewell is looking better every week and isn’t too far away from hitting some real form, while Thompson and Hernandez continue to impress with nine goals between them. The real issue though is Victory’s lack of cohesion as a team. We’ve seen glimpses of them playing as a unit but they seem incapable of reproducing it every week.
In the post-match press conference Mehmet Durakovic remained positive about the performance, opting to look on the bright side:
We dominated possession, created a lot of chances. They had a shot, scored. That’s football sometimes.
But they’re playing the way I want them to play. The players deserved a lot more than what they got tonight.
Fair enough, we did dominate possession but its what we did with the ball when we had it thats more worrying. Too many times we turned it over by playing hopeful passes, long balls and just making the wrong decisions. Plus, with the amount of chances we had last night we really should have won the game.
If there’s one positive thing I’ll take from this match its that it was the last game at Etihad Stadium for the season. That is until Finals, if we make it that far. But still, a change of scenery and a better atmosphere might just do the players some good. It worked against Gold Coast so lets hope it can give the players a bit of a lift. We need any sort of advantage we can get at the moment so whatever helps I guess.
If you need some cheering up this morning look no further than the comedic stylings of Adelaide United. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in a football match with three players all dropping to the floor, one by one. Hilarious! Have a good week.

Melbourne Victory News 24/7

Last night was the first time I did not celebrate after Archie had scored that goal:
‘
1: IT WAS ABOUT TIME (after TOO many shots on goal; my patience was growing very thin).
2: I had a really strong feeling that we would drop yet another lead.
‘
Turns out I was correct and we have now managed to drop 5 leads in the last 6 matches. Despite this fact, we are playing much better then the table suggests.
‘
Yet again, Harry proved that he is way passed his used-by date. He missed an incredible 3 one-on-one’s and gave the ball away numerous times in the midfield, putting uneccessary pressure on the already bombarded Victory defense this season.
‘
I usually have my strong opinion, but for one of the first times ever, I honestly don’t know what the Victory need to win.
Thanks for your feedback once again mate. So it was an Ernie Merrick style reaction from you then? Haha.
Harry did miss a few good chances but overall I think he’s playing much better than he has been earlier in the season.
Its anyones guess now as to what Victory needs. We just can’t seem to defend a lead. The next two weeks are so, so crucial.
