Melbourne Victory 3 Central Coast Mariners 3
November 3, 2006
Welcome to the very last Classic Match, which can only mean that the new season kicks off tomorrow! I hope you’ve enjoyed the countdown – I’ve got a real cracker of a game to finish it off.
The 3-3 draw with the Mariners is regarded by many fans as one of the best Victory matches in the Club’s history. Amazingly, it featured six goals and two red cards!
Danny Allsopp opened the scoring in just the 4th minute. Two minutes later, Central Coast had drawn level. Four minutes later, Melbourne were on the scoresheet again, via Archie Thompson. One minute later, the Mariners made it 2-2! Ten minutes later, Vargas was red carded for handball on the goal line and Kwasnik converted the penalty. Right before the break Kevin Muscat was red carded and the Victory went into half time down 3-2 and down to nine men.
Astonishingly, Melbourne completed a brilliant comeback in the second half and Danny Allsopp scored again in the 86th minute to rescue a point for the Victory. Unbelievable.
Thats it for the Classic Matches Countdown but check back this afternoon for my Season Preview, right here on the blog.
