Melbourne Victory 2  Adelaide United 1

Semi Final, 2nd Leg
February 4, 2007

Well, yesterday it was the 2007 Grand Final. Today, its the game that got us there. With the first leg in Adelaide being a nil-nil draw both teams still had it all to do at the Telstra Dome. With United having the advantage of the away goal, it was imperative for Melbourne that they keep them at bay.

It was Adelaide who scored first though, via a Travis Dodd header in the just the 4th minute as the Victory were caught napping. Melbourne hit back through Danny Allsopp just after half time to level the scores on the day, but if it remained that way, Adelaide would progress on away goals.

It was a tense second half and Melbourne left it as late as possible to score the winner, in the 93rd minute. The free kick was sent in and English striker James Robinson managed to get his head to the ball, and it floated over the goalkeeper and into the net. Melbourne Victory secured a home Grand Final which they would go on to win, claiming their first A-League Championship. Robinson may have been hailed as the hero of the day but equally heroic was Victory goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos who made a crucial save in the dying seconds of the match to make sure of the win.
